What message types are supported
Which messages and apps SmishAlert can filter or analyze on iPhone vs Android.
Capabilities depend on your platform. iOS can integrate with Apple's Messages filtering and system reporting. Android focuses on in-app reporting, share targets, and organization workflows—see Getting started with SmishAlert on Android.
iPhone: filtering (Unknown & Spam)
When you enable SmishAlert under Settings → Messages → Unknown & Spam, we can filter SMS and messages that iOS classifies as unknown senders. We do not read your full message history—only the content needed to decide if a message is threatening.
iPhone: reporting and calls
You can report conversations via Report Junk (Messages), the SmishAlert Messages app, or by sharing a screenshot with the SmishAlert Share extension. So even if a message comes from WhatsApp, Signal, or another app, you can capture a screenshot and report it via the Share extension. Call reporting is supported through iOS SMS/Call Reporting—we receive reported numbers and metadata, not call audio.
Android
Submit suspicious content from the Report tab (image, text, URL/QR) or by sharing into SmishAlert from another app. Android does not use Apple's Messages filter APIs; your protection story is built around explicit reports and alerts.
