Getting started with SmishAlert on iOS

Download and install

Download SmishAlert from the App Store and open the app. You'll see a short onboarding flow that explains protection, reporting, and QR scanning.

Enable message filtering

To filter suspicious texts, set SmishAlert as your iPhone filter. Personal includes this at no charge.

• Open Settings → Apps → Messages → Unknown & Spam.
• Turn on Filter Unknown Senders.
• Under SMS Filtering, select SmishAlert.
• On older iOS this may appear as Settings → Messages → Unknown & Spam → Text Message Filtering.

Enable call and message reporting

To report unwanted calls and messages to SmishAlert (and optionally to your carrier):

• Open Settings → Phone.
• Tap SMS/Call Reporting (or Call Blocking & Identification).
• Turn on Text Message Filtering and select SmishAlert.

Personal is free

SmishAlert Personal is free on iPhone. After you sign in you get on-device filtering, Practice Inbox, and up to 10 reports a month. Unknown Guard is the paid upgrade for screening texts from unknown senders. See Practice Inbox and Subscription (individual iPhone) in this help center.

Next steps

After setup, SmishAlert runs in the background. Open the Practice tab if you want to practice on simulated scam texts. Those messages stay inside SmishAlert and never appear in Messages. You can also report a real suspicious message from Share or Messages, or scan a QR code. If you're part of a team, your device may be enrolled by your organization.
