Getting started with SmishAlert on iOS

Initial setup and first steps for the SmishAlert iOS app.

Download and install

Download SmishAlert from the App Store and open the app. You'll see a short onboarding flow that explains protection, reporting, and QR scanning.

Enable message filtering

To filter suspicious SMS and messages, you need to set SmishAlert as your system filter:

  • Open Settings on your iPhone.
  • Go to Messages → Unknown & Spam (or Messages → Filter Unknown Senders).
  • Turn on Text Message Filtering.
  • Select SmishAlert as the filter.

Enable call and message reporting

To report unwanted calls and messages to SmishAlert (and optionally to your carrier):

  • Open Settings → Phone.
  • Tap SMS/Call Reporting (or Call Blocking & Identification).
  • Turn on Text Message Filtering and select SmishAlert.

Start your 7-day free trial

When prompted, start your free trial to get full protection. No payment is required until the trial ends. You can cancel anytime so you're not charged—see Manage your subscription with Apple in this help center.

Next steps

After setup, SmishAlert runs in the background. You don't need to do anything else for filtering to work. Open the app anytime to see your protection activity, report a suspicious message (Share or Messages), or scan a QR code. For step-by-step reporting guides, see the Reporting & Blocking section in this help center. If you're part of a team or organization, your device may be enrolled in Workforce mode, where SmishAlert is the system of record for social engineering reaching your workforce and your security team sees correlated exposure and campaigns. For organizational programs or a scoping call, see the 30-day exposure pilot section.
