How to take a screenshot on your iPhone
Screenshot steps for different iPhone models (with and without Home button).
Taking a screenshot is the first step when you want to report a suspicious message using the SmishAlert Share extension. The button combination depends on your iPhone model.
iPhone with Face ID (no Home button)
iPhone X, XS, XR, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, and later (including iPhone SE 3rd gen with Touch ID but similar side button):
- Press and quickly release the Side button and the Volume Up button at the same time.
- The screen will flash and you'll hear a shutter sound (if sound is on). The screenshot is saved to Photos.
iPhone with Home button
iPhone 8, 7, 6s, 6, SE (1st and 2nd gen), and earlier:
- Press and quickly release the Side (or Top) button and the Home button at the same time.
- The screenshot is saved to Photos.
After taking the screenshot
Open Photos → select the screenshot → tap Share → choose SmishAlert to send it for analysis. For more detail, see Report a message or screenshot with the Share extension.
